Scott Bennett

Author. Historian. Storyteller. Mentor.

Scott Bennett is an Australian author, historian, and storyteller dedicated to preserving the human stories of the Great War, and helping others tell their own.

Born in Bairnsdale, Victoria, Scott spent over three decades in senior executive and consulting roles with global companies before returning to a childhood passion: uncovering the untold truths of the Great War.

A 2003 visit to the battlefields of France and Belgium, where two of his great-uncles served - one never returned - sparked what would become a new chapter in his life.

That journey led to his first book, Pozières: The ANZAC Story, a re-examination of one of Australia’s most devastating battles. It was followed by The Nameless Names, which traces the lives of ANZACs who were never found, and Night in Passchendaele, a post-war novel exploring trauma and redemption.

Through meticulous research and emotionally resonant writing, Scott gives voice to those often left out of the official record. His books have earned him a loyal following among readers of Australian history. At the same time, his popular Facebook page -where he shares short, poignant Great War stories - has made him a widely recognised social storyteller.

Scott has also expanded his work to help others share their histories, launching a service called “In Their Honour” to research and craft personalised short stories about family members who served in wartime—a way of honouring the past through professionally told narratives.

With his wealth of experience, researching, writing, editing, and publishing best-selling books, Scott also offers writing coaching and workshops, “From Memory to Manuscript”, supporting new and aspiring writers to bring their own stories to life.

Scott lives in Hampton, Victoria, with his wife and two daughters. When he’s not writing or leading battlefield tours, you’ll likely find him running, swimming, cycling or attempting to surf (badly, by his own admission).
